The ART ED. ORG: MSUM's NAEA Student Chapter
GET INVOLVED. GET EXCITED. GET PREPARED. GET HIRED.
PURPOSE
The purpose of our organization is to provide additional opportunities and experiences for MSUM art education students. Through this endeavor we are also able to provide educational outreach and enrichment to local students, teachers, schools, and organizations. This student chapter has conducted field trips to local artist studios, arranged attendance at state and national conventions, taught art lessons and classes to a variety of audiences and organizations, continues to run numerous after school art clubs, and has done service work with the Great Plains Food Bank, Churches United for the Homeless, and Make a Wish Foundation, just to name a few.
Our Aim is to provide all Art Education students an opportunity to build a strong resume packed with pertinent volunteer and paid work experiences to meet their career goals. Take a look below at what opportunities await your journey at MSUM.

FRESHMAN YEAR....
Plains Art Museum, Fargo - Kid Quest Program!
Mission: Help kids and parents make art at this free Saturday morning program held the first Saturday of every month. Contact: 701.551.6109 or email ncloeter@plainsart.org
Big program with a great history..... they need you! Large crowds of kids and parents for this free monthly hands on creating workshop. Great opportunity to work with children, get ideas and network.
Art Tutor - Cardinal Scholars
Mission: Be on a roster to serve as an art tutor for individual K-12 students.

AmeriCorps Program - Youthworks

Mission: Provide ParaProfessional mentoring and support for at-risk youth.
15 Energetic, dedicated college students wanted to join the AmeriCorps team starting every Oct. 1. Members receive a monthly living allowance, education award, and great work experience. AmeriCorps members serve for one-year and make a commitment to complete either 300, 450, 675 or 900 hours. Positions range from 6-18 hours per week.
About Youthworks: Our focus and expertise is working with at-risk and homeless teens as well as parents and young adults under 22 years old.
Art Club - Churches United for the Homeless

Mission: Create fun, engaging, nurturing and positive experiences for youth at this Saturday art club.

Kennedy Elementary Mural(s)
Art Ed. Org. Service Learning in Action!
Kennedy Elementary in SW Fargo is one of the most diverse elementary schools in the region with children speaking 34 different languages. To help celebrate that diversity and make children and parents feel welcome, we partnered with Kennedy Elementary Art Teacher, Margaret Johnson and The Red River Zoo in helping every student in the school design and paint parts of the mural(s). Community demonstrations and volunteerism
Year-round opportunities to help in the community.
Every year our Art Ed. majors rack up hundreds of volunteer service hours in the community. In the spring we volunteer at local elementary and middle schools like Discovery Middle School or Centennial, Lincoln and Washington Elementaries, when they hold their annual Art Nights.
Leading Local Art Clubs
Lots of opportunities to lead and teach!
Volunteer and paid positions abound at local elementary, middle and high schools to lead after school art clubs or be an assistant. Pictured at right are students who just completed a mural at Ben Franklin Middle School. Other organization where our students teach include Courts Plus Fitness Center, the YMCA's, Park and Rec. Departments and College for Kids at MSUM in the summer.
Community, Kids & Clay
Public Art Project for Madison Elementary Skate/Bike Park
Dozens of Art Ed. Org and Alumni volunteers helped stack and carve wet-brick for a gigantic public art project for Madison Elementary School in the Golden Ridge Subdivision of North Fargo. MSUM Alumni; Art Teacher Megan Johnson and Mosiac artist Magda Szeitz involved every student at the school design and create a mosaic mural that will grace the public art project. McCal Joy Johnson
McCal Johnson left MSUM with an Art Ed. degree and has combined that with her passion for French in developing a software game app. to teach French. She recently graced the cover of Fargo Monthly magazine.
